ST. JOHNS, ANTIGUA, NOVEMBER 15, 2004 - In the recent Hockey Hall of Fame auction held on NHL.com, Internet casino GoldenPalace.com was the winning bidder for the Don Cherry One-of-a-Kind Goalie Mask paying $16,010, making it the world's most expensive goalie mask.

The revenue generated by these masks will be directed to 'Shoot for a Cure', a hockey-focused fund-raising campaign for spinal cord research. Its goal is to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries in hockey as well as promoting prevention of hockey-related spinal cord injuries. It started as a specific campaign of the Canadian Spinal Research Organization (CSRO) in 1999 and is focused on and led by the hockey community.

Outspoken, outrageous, and at times outlandish--Cherry has been called many things during his 24 years with Canadian network CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, but he's never been accused of being at a loss for words.

'I don't have any hobbies,' says Cherry. 'I don't golf. I don't fish. I don't have any other interests in life except hockey.'

A front-runner in the CBC 'Greatest Canadian' contest, Cherry painted the goalie mask with help from his daughter. As a player and then a coach in the NHL, Cherry has now parlayed his broadcast success into a line of popular videos, a chain of restaurants, a syndicated radio show and lucrative endorsements.

At a time when hockey is at a standstill due to a lockout, GoldenPalace.com is bringing some good news and some good will to the sport.

'We are pleased to contribute to the Shoot for a Cure campaign,' said GoldenPalace.com CEO Richard Rowe. 'We are hoping that this will be a step forward for the sport as well as help raise awareness for Spinal Cord Research.'

The online casino recently made headlines when they purchased the ball the David Beckham sent sailing over the goal in the Euro 2004 tournament, as well as one-of-a-kind Cabbage Patch Kids resembling talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres, President George W. Bush, and Senator John Kerry on eBay. All items have since been used to raise over $200,000 for various charities.

This marks GoldenPalace.com as the first online casino to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame, where the mask will remain on display until April 1, 2005.
