Our NYC improv comedy group is inviting one lucky (and generous)
bidder to come up with a creative name for our band of merry makers.
Why would we do this?
Anyone who's ever formed a garage band, started a company, or even
owned a pet knows coming up with a name can be a stressful endeavor.
But when eight people have to agree on that name it can be a nightmare.
That's why we, an as of yet unnamed comedy troupe, have decided to auction off that decision.
Also, we're just a bunch of starving comedians who provide joy and
laughter to the world without pay. Proceeds from this auction will be
used to cover rehearsal expenses and promotional materials.
Why would you do this?
This is an exciting opportunity for a person or company to do
something completely unique and different. Perhaps your company has a
new product to promote. "Burpy Cola Makes You Giggle" might be the
guerilla marketing you're looking for. Or maybe you'd like to propose
marriage in a hilarious way with "Glenda, Will You Marry Me?". Or maybe
you just like naming things and you've run out of children, pets,
plants, and little piggies. The possibilities are infinite.
The chosen name* will be announced at all performances by the group
and appear in all of the group's promotional material, including print
and online advertisements, postcards, and if the winning bid is high
enough, maybe even t-shirts, baseball caps, or a 30-second Super Bowl
spot.
(We recommend that bidders submit their preferred name via e-mail
prior to bidding so that we might have the opportunity to review and
filter any unacceptable suggestions and give you the chance to think of
another. Any suggestions not submitted by e-mail are subject to
rejection, even if they are submitted by the winning bidder.)
About us
Our group, consisting of Jarret Berenstein, Beth Cartier, Nick Cook, Alex Farlow, Dave Furfero, Alan Lidogoster, Peter McNerney, and Shawn Wickens, was formed as part of an ongoing resident ensemble workshop at New York's Magnet Theater.
Performers submit to an intensive 8-week audition process where
director, Armando Diaz, identifies strong improvisers who work well
with each other. Those asked to continue, perform regularly at the
theater, located at 254 West 29th St.
We will be performing alongside the Magnet's other talented improv teams at the theater's ensemble showcase, Megawatt, on Saturday and Thursday nights. The group has fourteen performances scheduled between July 22 and December 16. A detailed schedule is available on MySpace and on our website.
The winning name will be revealed at our
first performance on Saturday, July 22 at 9 PM.
*The fineprint: The name must be friendly
enough to appear in all promotional materials and must not violate any
laws, trademarks, or copyrights. The group reserves the right for final
approval of the chosen name and any suggestions containing profanity or
other questionable intent will be rejected. This auction is not
sponsored by or affiliated with the Magnet Theater. The Magnet Theater
is exempt from any and all liabilities resulting from this auction.

This week's TimeOut NY (on newstands Thursday) features a short
blurb about our auction. We are going to throw in a copy of this week's
issue for the winning bidder autographed by the members of
"_____________."
Also, we would like to invite the winning bidder to come see our
debut performance at the Magnet Theater as our guest. Ya know what?
Bring a date. It's on us. That's an added $10 value!
Did you know?
During our six-month run, we will be performing various long-forms of improv, including the Montage, the Monoscene (a scene that takes place in one location), and the Harold, as well as a short-form called Freeze Tag.
Now ya know.
