What Would Boxing Be Without An 'Ali'?

Laila Ali Wins Title And Follows In Legendary Father's Footsteps

Las Vegas, Nevada, August 17, 2002 -- Laila 'She Bee Stingin' Ali, daughter of legend Muhammad Ali, defeated Suzy Taylor to win her first title belt, the IBA Super Middleweight title at the Aladdin Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Ali totally dominated Taylor from the get-go, looking almost like her famous father by 'sticking and moving', delivering her jab with great strength and accuracy, and rocking Taylor repeatedly. Ali focused mostly on the body until Taylor's hands dropped and provided the opportunity for a hard shot to the head.

In the second round, Ali kept up the body attack until Taylor backed up into her own corner wincing and holding her arm against her left side. Referee Kenny Bayless stopped the bout at 1:11 of the round, and there is now another World Champion named 'Ali'.

Many believed that Ali was not prepared to handle a heavy hitter like Taylor who appeared to be a top condition, but the new champion displayed exceptional technique, power, and speed.

Internet casino GoldenPalace.com sponsored Taylor for her title defense. This is the first professional female boxer the online gaming giant has tattooed but she probably won't be the last. With the increasing popularity of women's boxing and stars like Ali and Taylor, expect to see more advertising on the fairer sex in the future.
